Why Connection and Communication are Vital to Well-Being

Guest Post • May 10, 2021

While each person is individual and has different interests from another, humanity as a whole has the same general needs. Human connection and communication are among those necessities that people crave. By understanding why humans need both, you can also better understand how to connect and communicate with others.

Humans are Social

Some people have a natural tendency to isolate themselves to avoid discomfort or possible pain. Although it happens naturally, this does not mean that isolation is a good thing. In fact, humans are social , in one way or another. Imagine you just started a new job, and your first instinct might be to keep your head down and get your work done. You might soon realize that you feel unattached at work. This is because you have not taken the time to connect with your coworkers and find common ground. Being social is not only for extroverts, but introverts as well. A lack of connection and feeling of isolation leads to depression and in some cases suicide.

Helps with Change

You need others to help you process change in your life. This can be with people who have experienced this change in the past or with people who are going through the change at the same time as you. Through communication during a stressful time, you can build comradery and hope that difficult times will turn out better. If you are feeling unmoored, communicating with loved ones can help you sort through what is and is not real so that you know how to react and continue to move forward. Everyone deals with major transitions, like a move or change in health, differently, but staying connected to loved ones is often vital to having a healthy outcome. You can even turn to a CNA if you need coping strategies.

Know Where You Stand

Much of human anxiety comes from questioning relationships. Communication helps eliminate misunderstandings and allows you to focus on building worthwhile connections. Effective communication also builds bridges where there previously was no trust. On your end, you are better able to understand what you are thinking and feeling when you put it into words. It also helps relationships to last longer and be strengthened when all parties speak and act honestly.

Connection is vital for the internet to work and different systems will communicate with each other to work effectively together. You and your loved ones are not very different. Human connection gives you the best shot at becoming better.
