Whenever there is a big change in someone’s life, it’s possible to feel grief and loss. Loss can be of anything including a relationship breakup, the death of a loved one, loss of a pet, the end of a dream, or other forms of loss. 
Sadness can lead to physical symptoms such as loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping or having brain fog. 
One of the worst parts of grieving, is not knowing if there’s a normal way to do it. Everybody has an opinion and when you’re in it, it’s difficult to figure out what you need most.
The truth is, everyone deals with grief and loss in different ways and there is no one right way.

How to heal

These are some ways that could help you heal and feel more like yourself: 
  • Focusing on self-care including grooming, eating, exercise--what are small goals that are easy to accomplish (i.e. having a nutrition shake each morning)? 
  • Expressing your feelings
  • Keeping a journal to record gratitude and things that bring joy
  • Making a memorial to express grief rather than repress it
  • Talking about it with a friend
  • Finding what works for you

When do I need professional help?

Ask for help when you need it.
Here are some signs that you should get professional help: 
  • You start thinking of harming yourself
  • You are blaming yourself
  • You’ve isolated yourself for more than two weeks 
  • You are unable to perform your normal daily activities
  • Feeling stuck in your grief
