Stress Management

When Stress takes over...

We all feel stressed sometimes. It's part of life. But ongoing patterns of stress can take a serious toll on your thoughts, moods, productivity, relationships and more.
How do I know if stress is affecting me?
  • It may be causing physical symptoms such as muscle tension, chest pain, fatigue, upset stomach, loss of appetite or lower sex drive.
  • Normal, routine activities feel overwhelming
  • You may feel unmotivated or unable to focus on tasks
  • There may be strong feelings of anger, sadness, anxiety, irritability, or restlessness
  • You may find your behaviours are becoming unhealthy or harder to control

Activities that lower stress

Stress is a normal part of life in our fast-paced culture. The demands are higher than ever. It's important to set boundaries on our time and activities so that the stress doesn't take over.
Stress-reducing activities may include:
  • Enjoying some time outside taking in the scenery
  • Spending time with loved ones
  • Regular physical activity
  • Perhaps reducing sugar and caffeine intake
  • Taking time for hobbies

Stress is so normal in our culture that it's often ignored. Stress is designed to keep us going when we have a lot on our plate. But over time, stress can have major effects on our health and well-being. Nobody can completely remove stress, but it is possible to reduce stressors and find ways to cope. It's important to take care of yourself. Counselling may be a good first step, helping to identify pathways towards a less-stressed you.
Our trained therapists will share tools for setting boundaries, and coping with stress in healthy ways.
